Networking Events: How to do it | Types of Benchmarking

How to do Networking Events? The networking or work in connection is based on establishing economic relations based on what the company can offer to different contacts. Corporate events are precisely organized to establish, among other things, links with people of interest who will become strategic allies.

Things to Consider in Networking Events

Entrepreneur lists four activities to consider when trying enriching your relationships during a networking events.

  1. Join important Events!

Dozens of networking events are organized every day. Plan, and select only those you believe your prospects and affiliates might be in, but also explore other places, such as group sessions, charity events, or meetings in your community.

  1. Do your homework!

Today, for many networking events, attendee lists are published earlier. Check them and identify the people you are most interested in knowing, think about topics of conversation to get closer and make a date.

  1. Introduce yourself!

Write the names of people you are interested in knowing on your Smartphone and also points out some essential details that you need to remember. Once you see someone you want to meet, smile, offer your hand, and say your name and what you do. Ask open-ended questions and try to find out if they have anything in common. Listen more and talk less. Focus on the other person instead of yourself.

  1. Suggest a later meeting!

It is important that you do not monopolize a person’s time. Be brief! Focus on creating understanding, not selling. Ask others about themselves, their business, and what they like to do when they are not working. Show a genuine interest in others and what they have to say and offer help when you can.

Do not wait any longer and put these tips into practice, you just have to know who you want to relate to and then meet her and focus on her and you’ll see how you are successful?

Types of Benchmarking

In today’s environment, business is progressing in a vertiginous way, because it has to be attentive to what happens around it day by day and, especially, what its competition does. When doing business, it is important to know all that your competitors are doing so you can implement strategies that allow you to be a step ahead in the market. To achieve this, several techniques must be used, such as benchmarking.

Different experts defines it as “a technique or management tool that consists of taking as a reference the best aspects or practices of other companies, whether direct competitors or belonging to another sector (and, in some cases, other areas of the company itself), and adapt them to the company itself by adding improvements.

Benchmarking is usually thought to consist of spying and copying, but the truth is that it is about observing what the competition is doing well and strengthening it in our favor. This is achieved by applying what is learned and adjusting it to the characteristics of the company. There are three types of benchmarking:

Internal Benchmarking: the one that applies within a company; for example, when referring to the practices used by a particular area of the company which, unlike the others, is getting very good results.

Competitive Benchmarking: one that applies to companies that are direct competitors; For example, when we take as reference the practices of the competition where it surpasses us.

Functional or generic benchmarking: one that applies to companies that may or may not be direct competitors; for example, when taking as a reference the strategies of a company that is a leader in a sector other than its own.

Apply benchmarking involves continuous monitoring and evaluation of competing companies, especially leaders, in order to identify their best aspects or practices; However, it is also possible to apply the benchmarking for certain aspects in which it is desired to improve.
