Team Training Strategies | Stages and Tools:- Team building and team training is quite an effective ways of keeping the morale of team members up and their individual capabilities in parallel to the objectives of a whole team. Being a part of the business that values the team building the same as it does in the case of gathering new customers, is really something which only the lucky ones get. Believe us!

There are many Team Building Methods that a brand can use for increasing the team bonding and thus leading to a productivity level, even higher than before. But of all the methods, team training is the most effective one. In this method, the performance of the individuals, who are working towards a common goal, is coordinated in such a way that one member’s capabilities support the others.

Team Training Strategies

It is difficult to approach the training of team members, directly. That’s why for the purpose, different strategies are put to use for the purpose of training the team members to increase their coordination.

  1. Cross Training

It’s just as its name suggests, cross training deals with the team members understanding and practicing each other’s skill. In this way, they are better able to know what his fellow member is capable of and to take the place of a member who leaves the team either temporarily or permanently. Moreover, the task completion process speeds up, in most cases, immensely if more than one person are working on it.

  1. Coordination Training

Coordination training focuses on maximizing the team’s overall performance by instructing the team members on improving the ways of sharing information while keeping an eye on the decision-making responsibilities. This strategy is of extreme importance for surgical teams, which are responsible for monitoring and testing different aspects of equipment and their effects on the environment since they are supposed to share the effective decisions regarding the particular situation.

  1. Team Leader Training

Team training is not limited to just team members, instead, team leaders and facilitators also need training time to time. This part of training is covered in team leader training strategy and involves in assisting him in improving his skill of anticipating the nature of the problem, thus decreasing the time needed to solve it. The same goes for suggesting a new solution to a particular problem.

Stages of Team Training

Objectives of Training and Development are greatly dependent on the coordination level of the team members. These goals and objectives change as the team grows in different stages, i.e. forming stage, storming stage, and norming stage. Each stage features its own reasoning, advantages, and disadvantages.

For example, the forming stage deals with binding the group, so that the group members get to know each other and begin to have a sense of what an actual team looks like. It also focuses on aligning the individual purposes so that they reinforce each other’s goals as if they have shared targets. Moreover, the roles of the leader are also established here.

The storming stage takes the objectives of the forming stage to a level above while adding more to it. This stage ensures that all the members are enjoying good working relationships with each other and are capable of sharing thoughts without any difficulty. This leads to nurturing the shared problem-solving skills and assists in the generation of new ideas. In this stage and from here on, short term objectives and milestones are used to get a clear picture of how the team is performing practically.

The norming stage is the final stage and the main idea of this stage is to increase the business knowledge of the team. It is done so that the individual members and the team, as a whole, can take on even greater responsibilities. This also involves in helping the team to become capable of setting its own future paths and goals.

Team Training Tools

There are several tools that can help to organize and define the structure of training the team and presenting it in front of team members. It is necessary to shape up the suitable environment for the team training to work effectively and this objective can easily be achieved by using these tools. In fact, these tools are capable of working in a perfect combination with different strategies, objectives, content and ideas to help in the creation of even more effective instructional strategies.

  1. Team Task Analysis

Team task analysis optimizes the performance of the work by matching the tasks and objectives with that of capabilities of the team members and their limitations, both individually and as a team as a whole. These tools focus on better interface and task designing, systematic performance assessment and using the results of these assessments in the improving the planning towards a better future of the team.

  1. Task Simulation and Exercises

Employees do need technical skills that can assist the team in accomplishing different tasks. But it is limited to just this, the team members also need skills and experience in communicating different issues with each other, resolving the conflicts, adapting to the different situations that arise, time to time, and dealing with other teamwork issues. These skills and experiences can be achieved by using task simulation and exercises.

This method of team training makes use of different simulation models to create real life examples on which the team members can apply their skills and experience. These exercises and examples can prove to be a great support and stepping stones for the members in improving their skill sets.

  1. Feedback

Giving feedback to the team member in accordance with their present skill levels and improvements is one of the most effective tools for the team training. The effectivity of this method lies in the positive experience and using the negative experiences, only when needed. Furthermore, it is necessary to keep in mind that it should be regular and should focus on each and every aspect of every team member, rather than just their abilities or weaknesses.

For the purpose, prepare your comments, beforehand. Well! We are not telling you to cram up scripts, but you are still needed to be clear about what you are going to say to your employees. Be specific about the topic. Tell the employee that what you want them to improve, exactly. This saves quite a great deal of time and diminishes the ambiguity in talks. For achieving even greater effectiveness, make sure that the recognition is done publicly, but the criticism should be done privately.
