5 – Reasons to Enhance your Project Team

By Richard Daniels Reading Time: 4 mins

In project management, valuing the team, i.e. giving it importance and highlighting it, is essential. Why? Because valuing your team is a great way to mobilize it and motivate it to the realization of your project. As a project manager, you should appreciate the work your team does for two reasons: because it is in excess of normal, because it is of high quality.

Valuing your team members means encouraging their success, even the smallest ones. So you encourage them to continue on the path to success. Especially avoid blaming them for their failures. However, if their way of working does not suit you altogether, you can suggest to them to do differently by finding the right balance between advice and criticism.

Valuation is based on good behavior, but also on results. You must be able to measure the results obtained. To do this, use you’re tracking indicators and update them regularly.

Reasons to Enhance your Project Team

Here are the 5 reasons why you should absolutely value your team.

  1. Valorization to Encourage Initiatives

In project management, it is important to develop creativity, autonomy and initiative within your team. Your employees are certainly full of brilliant ideas to facilitate or improve the realization of your project, overcome a problem or save time on the schedule.

Show your team that you are satisfied with the work provided is a great way to encourage initiative and self-reliance.

Establishing a climate of trust allows your employees to open up more easily. Encourage your team members to give them confidence and abilities. If they feel that their ideas are welcome, they will no longer hesitate to launch themselves and be a force of proposal.

Enhance your team’s work and encourage it to innovate. Be positive and adopt an open attitude while avoiding judgment. And most importantly, do not forget that your employees are also entitled to error.

  1. Valuing for Personal Development

Enhanced collaborators will be more motivated and involved in the project they are working on. It is up to you, as project manager, to inspire your employees, to stimulate their commitment and to make them want to get involved in the project.

Congratulating your employees on a regular basis gives them confidence, skills and abilities. In this way, you promote their personal development.

To be involved and motivated, your employees must use their know-how. Valuing the skills and talents of each member of your team is important. Indeed, your employees expect recognition. This is what contributes to their well-being in the business. Thus, you must ensure that your employees regularly acquire and develop new skills, in particular through training. The personal development is considered a success and leverage important business efficiency. Do not neglect it!

  1. Valuing to Stimulate and Maintain Motivation

Motivated collaborators can lift mountains. They are totally invested on the project, are creative, seek to innovate and want to achieve the objectives set. The dream for any project leader.

For this, no secret: you must value the work and skills of each member of your team. Recognition is the key to motivation. The more your colleagues see their work and their efforts recognized, the more they will want to work. A true virtuous circle!

Valuing the work of your team is therefore essential. Valorize the work of the group, but do not forget to value the individual work of each member of the team in order to avoid creating tensions or disappointments.

  1. Valuing to Encourage Progress

Progress means progressing, becoming better in a task or in a field. In project management, small successes and big hits are important. Valuing every success of your team encourages progress.

In the face of a failure, a problem, or in the event of strong pressure, finding a team solution is a source of progress both for the project and for the team that will learn from these errors. This is how the team progresses towards the success of the project.

  1. Valuing to Avoid the Departure of a Collaborator

The departure of a demotivated team member and lack of recognition is a difficult time for you as for the rest of the team. This departure disrupts the smooth running of your project. In addition, finding a replacement creates a waste of time, and therefore a loss of money.

It is therefore essential to keep your employees happy and motivated to avoid leaving them in the middle of a project. And above all, happy and motivated collaborators are more productive.

In Conclusion

Do not overdo it and do not value it to value as it could be seen as manipulation or mockery. Look for real efforts and show your satisfaction when the job is done right. Be sincere and respect this maxim: praise in public, but reprimand privately.

Do not dwell on mistakes. If you give them too much importance, they could breed. Stay positive and value the efforts, even if the result is not the one you hoped for. Remember: a motivated team is a powerful team.
